Calendar of Events 2007 - 2008
June 07 – July 07: Registration. Registration forms confirming all schools' participation to be signed and returned to the ‘Kids for Tigers’ coordinators in each city.
June 07 – July 07: ‘Teachers’ Environmental Leadership Workshops’. For School Principals, KFT Point Teacher/ s and other educators from each city, together with leading naturalists and wildlife experts. At these workshops the city coordinators will share details of plans for the year ahead and will provide ready-made ideas for projects and programmes that will help the schools to introduce green practices to improve the environmental standards of their campus and neighbourhood, besides introducing the long term goal of wildlife conservation in the minds of the children.
June 07 – September 07: Slide Shows - ‘Save India’s Big Five’. The current year's topic is ‘Save India’s Big Five’ Our Endangered Wildlife’ with a special emphasis on the tiger. The slide show will have three basic parts:
- The current status of our endangered animals - especially the tiger.
- Threats to India’s endangered Big Five and the forests.
- Understanding global warming and its consequences.
- Specific ways that kids can help to save wildlife and ecosystems, and contain global warming.
This interactive Audio-Visual show is for ALL children from classes III to VIII. Where possible, wildlife experts from Sanctuary will visit the schools to interact with the kids.
October 07 – December 07: ‘Art for Conservation Campaign’. Students will get a chance to get creative and innovative by turning their concern to art. Such works will be based on a common national theme and will be used for city and national campaigns to save our endangered wildlife. Art sheets will be provided to the students, of the junior classes from III to V, for a drawing competition in the school. A scroll would be provided for the classes from VI to VIII, to make a poster, as well as collect signatures on the same.
June 07 – February 08: Nature Walks. Carefully designed and supervised nature walks will be conducted for very selected, promising students from each school. Teachers and parents are welcome to accompany the children on these walks. The purpose is to help children experience and appreciate the natural world.
December 07 - February 08: Tiger Fest. The city coordiantors will take stock of the progress of the KFT programme and encourage all the students to invite their parents and friends to a special Kids for Tigers Fest in the city, where schools will be given an opportunity to showcase their environmental projects to other schools and the public in the presence of the media.
